Prostitution: A necessary evil

If you look at the real meaning of prostitution, this should be legal. According to the present law of land, you are the master of your body. Hence, you can decide and should decide how you want to make use of your body, as long as you do not endanger anyone?s life.

There have been many fiery debates on whether prostitution should or should not be made legal in the modern society. In my opinion, it should be definitely legalized. Legalization is the only way one can control and regulate this evil ? if you may call it that. After all, in today?s promiscuous society, selling your body for money should no more be a big issue.

Today, it is common for two complete strangers to meet and have consensual sex within a few hours from their meeting. This however, would be for pleasure and/or exploring whether it would be worth to continue the relationship. Then, may I ask, why should it be so wrong to buy or sell sex where it is needed?

There are countries where prostitution has been legalized with excellent results. In such countries, it is possible to even tax the income of the sexual workers because it is listed as a legal occupation. Moreover, why not? Only when it is regularized and legal, it would be possible to monitor the health of the sexual workers, train them in maintaining basic hygiene and protection against venereal diseases, and all such dangers to themselves and to the society.

People argue that prostitution is immoral. Is it really? Are affairs moral? Are one night-stands moral? See, the way it looks from any logical point of view, if one wants to mess his/her life, there are many ways to do so. This is rather the most complicated of all. Now, let us consider that prostitution is completely abolished. Would you, by any remote chance, think that those who want to have extra marital affairs and sex outside the marriage would stop looking for it? I doubt that very much.

The ability of buying sex will actually reduce the pressure on the society from undesirable sexual activity and indecent propositions. Considering the way people live today, if prostitution would not be a viable choice, people would try to trick others into a relationship for it. Would that be a viable choice? In that case, you would be having more and more broken hearts, unwed mothers and unhappy people.

Prostitution is necessary and it is not evil at all. It is just consensual sex with an agreement to pay for it - a pre-agreed price. When the agreement is between two adults who know what they are doing, it actually should be no one?s business. The law should interfere only when parties are forced or coerced into this profession.
