Now here's an original idea. Jeff Lindsay has brought us a great new murder series with a fresh voice. His main character, a man named Dexter, is a serial killer who preys on serial killers.Dexter was a ward of the state when he became a foster kid to Harry Morgan, a Miami cop. Harry recognized the signs in Dexter that told him Dex would be a serial killer. Harry had an idea. He helped Dexter learn how to be good at the murders, and how not to get caught. Then he turned Dexter to killing serial killers. The book starts with Dexter abducting a priest. Dexter always does his homework and he knows this particular priest is a serial killer that does bad things to kids. Dexter lets his Dark Passenger take over and he has a lovely time. Dex is a conundrum. He is emotionaless, and yet he has to care what other people think in order to not get caught, therefore he tries very hard to fit into society, even though he often just doesn't get where people are coming from, because he isn't driven by emotion. His foster sister Deb Morgan, also a Miami cop, often leaves him shaking his head at her outbursts.He lives a solitary life by choice, spending his free time researching serial killers. He works as a blood splatter analyst for the forensics unit, even though he hates the sight of blood. In this, his first book Darkly Dreaming Dexter, a second serial killer has arrived in Miami and he leaves no blood at all. Dexter is very intrigued. Both that there is another serial killer and that he seems to be using Dexter's same modus operandi to finish his victims. Dexter thinks the killer is sending him a personal message to come out and play. Dex is thrilled.But first he has to find the killer.You will truly enjoy reading this serial killer's thoughts. The book is light, funny and surprising. You find yourself liking this serial killer, and rooting for him. You can understand his confusion at the rest of us being driven by emotion. He tries very hard to please Deb, not because he cares so much, he just doesn't want her to yell at him. Read this series. You will love it!
