The second book picks up immediately from the first. Lucivar Yaslana, the Eyrien Warlord Prince, still in the salt mines as a slave, is brought out to taste the air and the essence of the missing Jaenelle. Emotions are stripped raw and the heart must go out to Lucivar and his half brother Daemon, both locked in a separate battle that appears to have no conclusion but death. Desperation and despair abounds, while the Priestesses Dorothea and Hekatah continue to weave webs of lies, deceit and dark revenge.

While Daemon treads the Twisted Kingdom believing he has Janelle?s blood on his hands and soul, Lucivar goaded beyond his proud spirit?s capacity, breaks free in a bloody escape and he rides the wind to his destruction.

Jaenelle meanwhile, fragile and vulnerable, angry and powerful, has taken up residence with Saeton, as his daughter. Saeton?s anguish, which alternates with amusement, is clear, as his Hall is taken over by Jaenelle?s friends, both human and animal, all talented, potentially dangerous warlords and witches. It is a delightfully enlarged experience of a father bringing up a teenage daughter, while at the same time keeping, as it where, a firm hand, on the family business.

As her strength returns and ever-lasting bonds are formed, particularly with the irrepressible Black Widow witch, Karla and with Dorothea and Hekatah pushing harder to gain control of Jaenelle, by whatever means lay at their disposal, the witch-child battles a seemingly never-ending stream of emotions and adventures.

Kaetien, the unicorn warlord, becomes the catalyst to Jaenelle?s offering to the dark. He was the first of the animal warlords to form court with the humans to the young witch-child. Now bereft and challenged by the danger to all those she loves, Jaenelle can only protect by coming into her full birthright. Ebon Rih, home to Lorn, the huge black dragoon, the guardian of the Keep, holds no fear to Jaenelle, but terrifies everyone else, including the High Lord of Hell, Saeton. It is to Lorn in Ebon Rih, that Jaenelle will make the offering.

Again, throughout this story, there are dark deeds, treachery, pain both physical and mental, strength, courage, endurance, laughter and tears. Every emotion shows its face. New characters appear, both those of the blood and not of the blood. The curse of Briarwood, that dreadful, shameful home for disturbed children, which was shown early in Book 1, comes to a fitting finish.

The Twisted Kingdom, still holds Daemon in thrall, with both Jaenelle and Surreal, the gifted assassin, fighting to bring him to the borders and sanity once more.

This book holds and delights, as the family of SaDiablo fill the pages, with Jaenelle, once again, as the pivot of all their lives.
