This is the first in a series of three books which has that quality of not being able to be put down. An excellent, gripping story of longing for something true and wondrous, by three of the most unlikely male characters that one could conceive of such desire.

Saeton, High Lord of Hell, his sons Daemon, the Sadist, the lover whose touch could melt bones and Lucivar, a dark winged Eyrien Warlord. All three deadly, dangerous males, strong willed, strong bodies and potentially characters made for the reader to hate or despise, are presented as beings full of battered emotions, of unrequited love and a longing for their perfect witch queen, the one person that all three, in their separate localities can love, adore, obey and be true to.

The book is populated with beings from the netherworld. Tersa, a brilliant broken witch and black widow, who exists between the lucid world and the Twisted Kingdom of madness, Titan, beautiful Queen of the Harpies, presented in a different form to the mythological creatures, although plenty of these also abound in different guises. The dark barren land, which is home to the cruelly murdered children, where Char, a young lad, is leader and spokesman for the hurt souls within. Then there are the Priestesses, Dorothea and Hekatah, with their unnatural appetites, controlling, evil and powerful, at loggerheads with the Lord of Hell, even before the witch child comes.

The Rings of Obedience, which will make any male flinch, as vicious as their owners, who control the pleasure slaves, such as Daemon and the unruly Lucifer, by pain and then more pain.

Briarwood, a home for disturbed children, sponsored by the Lords faithfully to the High Priestesses, with its dark secrets. Briarwood, the name of a curse.

All of these are linked to a young girl. This same young girl who turns to the Lord of Hell for love. Saeton, Black Widow, wise to ways of the world, gives unconditional love to the fragile being, the pawn that Hekatah and Dorothea wish to use, in order to control the whole of the Territories.

This then is Jaenelle?s story.

This is no milksop story. There is violence, horror and cruelty, but before these become overwhelming, they are balanced by their opposites. It is a book fast paced, dense and wonderfully crafted. As the last page is turned, so the hand must reach for Book 2, so compelling is the drama that is unfolded chapter by chapter.
