7 Deadly Wonders
(matthew reilly)
THE SEVEN ANCIENT WONDERS COLOSSUS OF RHODES Once the tallest bronze figure in the world (110 feet), the Colossus stood for only 56 years before being destroyed by an earthquake. The head of the statue has been missing since 226 B.C. HANGING GARDENS OF BABLYON The most mysterious of the Ancient Wonders. To this day, there is no hard evidence that the Hanging Gardens ever existed. Descriptions of the Gardens from ancient texts vary wildly. STATUE OF ZEUS The last surviving remnant of the Zeus statue -- the figure of Winged Victory -- now rests in the Louvre, where Huntsman and his team attempt a daring break-in. TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS The Greek temple burned down on the day of Alexander the Great?s birth; therefore, it?s the one Wonder that never actually held a piece of the Capstone. The so-called ?Artemis piece? later found its way into ?the highest temple? of the Cult of Amun-Ra -- St. Peter?s Basilica, in the Vatican City. LIGHTHOUSE OF ALEXANDRIA The mirror that once topped this Ancient Wonder has been hidden in Hamilcar?s Refuge, a booby-trapped, underground complex on the coast of Tunisia. MAUSOLEUM AT HALICARNASSUS Originally located in Turkey, this was the burial place of King Mausollos. (All mausoleums are named after him.) A piece of the Capstone rests in one the Mausoleum?s octagonal pillars. GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA The only Wonder left standing. 7 Deadly Wonders reaches a nail-biting climax on top of the Pyramid, as the Tartarus Rotation draws near. KEY TERMS CALLIMACHUS TEXT The Oracle of Siwa is the only person who can decipher the Callimachus Text, which reveals the resting places of the Seven Wonders. CULT OF AMUN-RA These sun-worshippers were the caretakers of the Golden Capstone. The Cult has survived to this day under various guises: the Freemasons, the Knights of St. John of Malta, and some sections of the Catholic Church. Note also the capstone-bearing pyramid on the U.S. one-dollar bill. GOLDEN CAPSTONE Separated into seven pieces by Alexander the Great, the assembled Capstone holds the key to global supremacy. ORACLE OF SIWA The High Priest of the Cult of Amun-Ra, an inherited title that has now passed on to the twins, Lily and Alexander. In 323 B.C., the Oracle gave the Golden Capstone to Alexander the Great, who hid the pieces in the Seven Wonders. SECRET GOSPEL OF ST. MARK A second gospel, long suppressed by the Catholic Church, that links Jesus with the Cult of Amun-Ra. TARTARUS ROTATION A solar event that occurs every 4,500 years, unleashing global environmental havoc.
