Journal Entry: Will Social Security Be Here For Me?
Whether Social Security will be here for me is a very hard question to answer. There are many people that feel that Social Security will not last much longer, and others that say all of the worry is a political game that has little to do with the facts. Even when I read about it in the newspapers or the Internet, or watch news programs about it on television, I am confused about what the facts really are. I think that there are many people across the country, both young and old, that feel the same way. safe when they are older. There is also the chance that they could lose a lot of this money, because it is not insured like the money that is put into a checking or a savings account. I think that Social Security will still be here for me, though, because I don't see how the President and the Congress could let something that is so necessary for so many people just disappear. I believe that this is part of the reason that President Bush wants to change Social Security so that people can invest part of that money into other things. Doing this would take some of the Social Security burden off of the government and still let people have enough money to survive on when they retire. Even though Social Security doesn't always pay a lot to these older people, for some of them it is all that they have. While I think Social Security, at least in some form, will still be here for me, I also think that I might want to look into how I can save money and invest money in other ways, even if I don't have that much to invest. Even investing a little bit now might help to protect me later.
