Any self respecting titled gentleman who is serious about settling down needs to marry an upstanding woman. Since most of the females Jack associates with are not the virtuous sort, he takes the advice of society experts to heart and seeks out a respectable widow.
Nessa Haughton is the widow of a staunch Quaker. Her father, a conservative minister, had chosen a husband who shared his views for his youngest daughter. She married a few weeks after her debut. Growing up sheltered as a child and then living as a recluse with her husband for five years, Nessa is determined to discover what she?s been missing and longs for excitement. On her first night out after her period of mourning is over, the new Marquis of Foxhaven begs an introduction. Entranced by the dashing rogue, Nessa allows Jack to escort her around town.
Gossips and scandal mongers are only too eager to regale the young widow with tales of Jack?s sordid past. But Nessa is more intrigued than disgusted by the Marquis?s reputation. Jack confesses many of his indiscretions and vows to leave his wicked ways behind if Nessa will agree to marry him.
Any true meeting of the minds can only occur if both parties are willing to compromise. A rascal?s road to redemption and a late bloomer?s bent for boldness will lead them both along the path of true love.
