The Traveler
(John Twelve Hawks)

Publicidade
Set in today's world, using many of today's technilogical advancements, John Twelve Hawks inserts a subculture into our world. Travelers move from dimension to dimension and bring enlightenment back to earth. This causes problems with the Brethren, a group that uses the President of the USA as a puppet, and believes that people under control are happier. As long as they move within the rules of the Brethren they are free. As the story begins the travelers and Harlequins have been almost wiped out of world. The Evergreen Foundation is the corporation the Brethren use to do their dirty work. This book 1 of 4 introduces you to the characters: Maya, the Harlequin is the main character. The story begins with Maya as a child being taught Harlequin life by her father Thorn. Harlequins only purpose in life is to protect the travelers. To that end they are skilled at weapons, breaking and entering, and staying under the radar of the grid, or the web of surveillance used by the government and large corporations to regulate the world. The story continues when Maya is an adult living in Europe. She is assigned to protect two brothers believed to be travelers who have not traveled yet. Gabriel, son of a traveler and possibly a traveler himself, has lived his whole life off the grid. Michael, Gabriel's older brother has decided to go on the grid to live a normal life. Vickie, a true believer, helps Maya in the USA find the resources she needs to find the brothers.Hollis, a martial arts expert that Vickie finds to be a mercenary for Maya.Lawrence Takawa, son of a Harlequin, his mother brought him up inside the grid. He works for the Evergreen Foundation and spies for the Harlequins.Boone, the main hit man of the Evergreen Foundation. As fun as the Matrix, this book is full of action. Opposing sides press their advantages and use new technologies to further their agendas. The Grid is a major part of this story, which is in place now over the world. It refers to the gps technology to place individuals and cars anywhere. The Evergreen Foundation uses this technology within their building. Implants for each employee determines which doors they can open and which hallways they can walk down. They are monitored to the point that the Foundation knows if they rented a vehicle when they already have a car that isn't in the shop to be fixed. They will be called to explain why they did this. It is getting tougher for people off the grid to move about. Maya uses fake IDs and fingerprint casts to get through the airport. She injects fluid into her face to change her appearance and fool the face recognition programs. Her special Harlequin sword is hidden in the leg of her tripod with her camera equipment. The rest of the weapons Vickie finds for her. At the same time they locate Gabriel and Michael, the foundation has also found them. The brothers get seperated and Maya takes off with Gabriel, and the Foundation takes Michael to their secret location. The Foundation wants to use travelers now, instead of eliminate them. They have found a culture in another dimension that is feeding them technology. They want a traveler to show them the way to enter our world and the Evergreen Foundation is anxious to help them. They help Michael on his first traveling experience.Maya and Gabriel find a commune out in the desert where there is a Pathfinder, or teacher. Sophia helps Gabriel learn the technique of traveling. Will the brothers meet in another dimension? The answer is worth reading to find out. This sci-fi was enjoyable and I recommend it to others.
