For those of us who are addicted gamers there really is no turning back and game manufacturers are making sure that we don?t have to. The latest range of gamming consoles is proof of their intention from keeping us to go to rehab to cure our addiction. However of all the consoles the Nintendo Wii truly is a work of art, bringing us closer to the inevitable virtual reality experience. Even though the Sony Play station 3 and Microsoft?s Xbox bring some of the most realistic and exciting range of visual and graphic effects to the fore, they are still fundamentally old fashioned because they use the standard interaction methods of the joystick. The player is once again placed before the same genres of games like Doom 3 first person shooter etc and all he gets is an extra dose of realistic graphics. The Play Station?s $600 price tag does not help its position either in the competition between the three. The creator?s of Nintendo?s Wii decided to take a different approach when it came to games. Players are encouraged to move around and simulate the movement in the games if they want to win. For example if you are playing tennis then you have to simulate the shot that is you actually have to play the shot with the control as if it were a racket! Also in multiplayer mode one can play with friends or family members and the competition can get real serious for it no longer matters whose fingers move faster, rather it now depends on who has more stamina. It is as if you are playing the real game only you are not on the field and no rackets and balls are in use. This brings us to the inevitable, no more sitting in one place with the fingers doing all the work. It is bad news for us couch potatoes but still it won?t kill us to get some exercise once in a while, and personally I would prefer to have fun while I exercise. The graphics of the Wii leave a lot to be desired however it is a new technology and I am sure that it would not be long before we are tearing through the jungle, RPG in hand, and doing the moves as if we were really there. The Release date of the Wii has become a tricky affair with the date becoming as illusive as the proverbial wild goose. The hunt for the release date has become a mission worthy enough for us to hire Agent 47, sadly though (thanks to the latest version) he now rests in peace, we may never be able to know the exact date for sure now.
