The Emperor's Children
(claire messud)

Publicidade
i read the book over three days and i immediately went back to read it again in order to flesh out my understanding of the minor characters.her writing reminds me of philip roth; insightful, cynical, of the moment.the theme of this book is entitlement; those who are beautiful and/or successful need to make far fewer compromises than others. her main character, murray thwaite is a modern day emerson. there are no happy endings for any of the characters, who learn the value of being 'tough', emotionally contriolled and 'they will be known by their coats'.
