The National Service Team decided to establish National Intercession Centre for ongoing adoration and intercession for Renewal in the country. Funds were needed for this purpose and people were asked to contribute towards this cause. People did help generously but the required amount could not be collected. Yet, in faith the process of looking for a premise began. During this junction, people started questioning about the need of Intercession Center especially, when facing shortage of funds. There are some who understand the need and urgency of intercession but there are others who feel that undue attention is being given to it. The initiatives in spiritual area are to be discerned through prayer and nourished with the help of intercession. The growing need for intercession for the members is sensed along with the need of the Renewal in the country as a whole, which justifies the necessity for National Intercession Centre. The initiatives that the church has taken have grown in prayer but could not bear much fruit. This shows that with funds in hand we may take up Lord?s work but will not be able to continue for long. Pope John Paul II has emphasized the role of intercession in effective evangelization by stating that prayer should accompany the journey of missionaries so that the proclamation of word will be effective through God?s grace. The National Service Team has sensed the Lord asking to put horse before the cart, that prayer and intercession should be put before starting the work of Lord. Experience has proved that intercession always led to tangible results. The renewal had begun in Delhi in 1975, but there was no great movement till early 1990?s. Four people came together and began a chain intercession for Renewal in Delhi where they fasted and prayed in rotation. On the sixteenth day itself tangible results were seen. Another method was adopted where all members were asked to join for intercession from their place itself for ten minutes daily. Both these methods were highly successful and helped the renewal process in Delhi. Jesus proved the power of group intercession by stating ?where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am, in the midst of them?. (Mt 18:19). The question we need to ask ourselves is, Are we convinced about the promises that Lord has made with regards to intercession? The impact of prayer was studied on a group of over thousand patients, who were admitted to coronary care unit of Mid America Heart Institute and published in Journal of American Medical Association. 484 patients undergoing regular treatment were assigned to a group of intercessors, while 529 patients were subjected only to medical treatment. The intercessors prayed regularly for four weeks lifting up the name of 484 patients. The results showed that those who were prayed for by the intercessory group recovered much faster and developed lesser complications as compared to others. ?Even before they finish praying to me, I will answer their prayers? (Isaiah 65:24). ?Call to me in times of trouble, and I will deliver thee? Jer 33:3. He ?is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine? Eph 3:20. In 1933, Adolph Hitler conquered nearly part of the world. The battle of Dunkirk is another example where intercession defeated Hitler?s plan. When Hitler sent his soldiers into France, Britain and Belgium, the soldiers failed to Nazi?s back and fled towards English Channel and were trapped. If they tried to escape across the Channel in ships, Hitler?s submarines would submerge them in sea. The Allied Nations tried all possible alternatives and King George III decreed a day of intercessory prayer throughout the country. Christians all over united to pray for British army. God answered their prayers immediately and within hours 3,30,000 Allied soldiers were rescued from Hitler?s hands. There are regions facing genuine problems in the growth of Renewal and the leaders are upset, because, despite their best efforts, nothing realis taking place. When things seem out of control and are lost for we do not know where to go, we should turn towards the Eucharistic Lord. There is nothing more powerful than Eucharistic Adoration, which will give the strength to overcome problems, even though they may seem bigger than mountains. The intercessors need to be encouraged to lift the problems in the hands of the Lord who is in control of situation at all times. The horse definitely needs to be put before the cart. The aim should be setting up of adoration and intercessory centers in every region and every parish.
