The Witch of Blackbird Pond is an American modern classic for young adults. Set before the American Revolutionary War, the story is told through the eyes of a young girl, Kit, from Barbados. Kit escapes an undesirable marriage after the death of her grandfather for the shores of Connecticut. There she discovers that her Catholic upbringing conflicts with the Puritan community and causes many troubles for her Uncle and Aunt. Her only solace is the vast field and quiet house where an elderly Quaker woman lives. However, the community looks very ill upon Quakers and suspects the woman to be a witch. To make matters worse a love triangle forms around Kit. With perseverance,dedication and a little sneaking around, Kit discovers her heart, an emerging country and the people who will eventually fight for their freedom from a tyrannical king. The Witch of Blackbird Pond is a book about young love and self discovery. It's a fun read for both adults and young adults.
