Touched With Fire
(Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison)

Publicidade
Dr. Kay Jamison?s book ?Touched With Fire? is a scientific analysis of the artistic temperament and its relationship to manic-depressive illness or bipolar disorder. While this is a book strongly based on science it is written in a way that can be understood by the non-scientific reader.

Dr. Jamison conducts a thorough analysis of the history of manic-depressive illness and of the studies which have been undertaken to understand the illness and it?s prominence in the artistic community. She also includes case studies of individuals with this illness and discusses at length the family history component.

Dr. Jamison does not at any time indicate that all artists are manic-depressive or that all manic-depressives are artists, however, she does present a fascinating study of the correlations that have been noted through science and offers many insights into this not uncommon form of mental illness.

Finally, she concludes the book with a discussion of pharmacological intervention in the treatment of this disorder and how these drugs may affect the creative temperament.
