The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas offers a unique perspective on the Holocaust. The novel is narrated from the point of view of Bruno, a nine-year-old boy. His father is Commandant of Auschwitz concentration camp. Bruno challenges the German attitudes toward the Jews through is incomprehension of prejudice. He looks through the fence at the children in striped pyjamas and wonders why he can?t play with them. Although this novel is written from a Childs perspective, it is aimed at adults. Bruno?s experiences highlight how prejudice and hatred are learned behaviours
