Advaita ,thought in India. The above book is an English translation by Sri Rajagopalachari former Chief minister of Madras state ,who was also a cabinet minister in Nehru's cabinet and also the last Governor-general of British India. He is a great scholar and has written many scholastic works ,translations from Sanskrit to English,Tamil to English and this book is one such gem from the pen of sri rajaji as he is known as to Indians. In this book he describes each verse in original style ,takes the reader very close to understanding the philosophical meaning of the particular hymn by drawing parallels in real life.He extemporely quotes from Tirukkural another great Tamil devotional work by Nammalwar an Alwar saint composer to make the concept of bhajagovindam songs more clear to the reader. In Indian Philosophy most people see there are two different ways to reach God.one is through Knowledge and the other way is by Devotion. But as per Sankara, both are one and same.Sri Rajaji emphasises this by saying that Adi Sankara is one who drank the ocean of knowledge and if he says that Devotion and Knowledge is one and same, then there can not be another testimonial for that. Further to it he elaborates ,that mind has ego and other attachments to the senses which are the main obstacles for Humanbeings to reach God.He proposes that ,Devotion towards the God is alone solution to controll one's mind from attachments.According to shri Rajaji,Adi Sankara has shown a way to those people who are unable to see the way to attain ultimate peace and who cannot feel the God .His way to attain God is pure Love towards God.Hence, in Bhaja Govindam Songs he has packed all the vedantic substance and brought the grand union of Devotion and Knowledge to melodious music in these songs which are delicious to ears. This great work of Shri Rajaji is published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in India and is available globally in most of the reknowne Book stores.
