The well written and high action plot puts the detective, for the Washington D.C. police department, in the middle of the highest profiled kidnapping case since the abduction of the Lindbergh Baby. Through the story, he falls in love with Jezzie Flanagan, befriends the criminal Gary Soneji/Murphy?in order to find the missing Maggie Rose Dunne?and is at the whim of the city of Washington D.C., the F.B.I., and the frustrated parents of Maggie Rose Dunne. Alex Cross is driven to find out why he is the one at the center of the case, why he is the only one finding any leads, and why he is the only one interested in the truth. The end is bitter sweet for Alex Cross as he loses love, but finds redemption, and the answers he has been searching for.
