Dan Brown?s 2003 novel, that inspired a movie with the same title, is based on a hoax of the ?Priory of Sion?, that was created by a pretender of the French throne, Pierre Plantard in 1956. In his bid to prove his claim to the French throne of the Merovingian dynasty from the 4th-8th centuries, he faked some genealogy documents dating them back to a 1000 years, entitled, "Les Dossiers Secrets" and planted them in the French National Archives and with the help of a conspiracy writer, Gerald de Sede, published a controversial book called "Le Tresor Muadit" supporting the cabal?s existence, interloping it with the story of Noel Corbu about an ex priest Berenger Sauniere?s findings of a medieval document with great historical secret in 1891 in his parish church in Rennes-le-Chateau, France. Plantard claimed that the secret document purportedly showed the bloodline survival of the Merovingian line of kings after being replaced by the "Mayors of the Palace". This bloodline secret was kept by the ?Priory of Sion?. The ?Les Dossiers Secrets? book brought so much public attention, and some researchers were drawn into its story of the ?Priory of Sion?. Some documentaries on this subject followed on BBC by Henry Lincoln and others in the 70s. In 1982, a book called Holy Blood Holy Grail by Henry Lincoln and Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh come out, but this time, the Merovingian dynasty are said to be bearers of the true Holy Grail, Jesus? bloodline. It is said that at the time of Jesus? crucifixion, his wife Mary Magdalene was pregnant with his Holy Grail, Sarah. After the Crucifixion she ran away from Israel to France where she was sheltered by the Jews of Marseille. Her daughter Sarah, become the mother of the Frankish Kings, the Merovingian dynasty. Mary?s relic is allegedly to be hidden in secret crypt perhaps in Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. This secret was kept hidden by the ?Priory of Sion? and Leonardo Da Vinci was its member and he expressed it on his mystical medieval drawing of the ?Vitruvian Man? and ?Mona Lisa?. This secret is only read by people with symbolic gifts to see the message behind mystic drawings. The Church is blamed for this in their campaign against heresy and canonization of the four gospels and propaganda against unbelievers.
?The Holy Blood Holy Grail? book by Lincoln, Baigent, Leigh, puzzled Plantard, when he found out that his "Priory of Sion" conspiracy have been expanded into Jesus? bloodline, putting him forward as a descendant. Plantard rejected it and distanced himself from till his death in 2000. Plantard told a French Inter Radio? s Jacques Pradel that ?The Holy Grail? is a good book, but one must say that there is a part that owes more to fiction than to fact, especial in the part that deals with the lineage of Jesus. How can you prove a lineage of four centuries from Jesus to the Merovingians? I have never put myself forward as descendent of Jesus Christ."
The ?Priory of Sion? was proven false by some investigators, including Jean-Luc Chaumeil, a former ?Priory of Sion? hoax writer in the 70s and Plantard, himself admitted with an oath to the French Police investigator, when they ransacked his house that it is a hoax.
Despite Pierre?s recant and repudiating the version of secret document "Dossiers Secrets", Lincoln, Baigent, Leigh, Brown and others with their anti Christ spirit, accept it as "plausible history". These writers still believes in the story of the Priory of Sion as a ?real? organization that safeguarded the bloodline of the Meroviangians kings, the allegedly descendants of Jesus and Mary. They made themselves as the promoters of anti Christ with this hoax of the ?Priory of Sion?, which Plantard created only to claim the Frankish throne. They disrespect the gospel tradition that came to us from the apostles via their disciples like Clement, Papias, Ignatius, Polycarp, Hermas, Oregon, Tertullian who left infallible proofs of the use of the fourfold gospel records in their writings against the heretics.
It seems like Dan Brown and his predecessors of the Jesus Bloodline hoax are against the Church and they use the story of the ?Priory of Sion? as a vehicle for their opinions. Here, the Church is blamed for suppressing the truth in their campaign against heresy and canonization of the four gospels out of 80 as propaganda against unbelievers. Constantine, the Roman Emperor, is said to be the man behind the allegedly church scandal with it?s biased fourfold gospel [Matthew, Mark, Luke and John]. It is said Constantine imposed the doctrine divinity on the church at the Council in Nicaea as a political stunt. Dan and his contemporary are ignorant of the early Christian literature. The Council at Nicene in AD 325 was about solving controversies of the Easter celebration date and the Arian controversy which denied the Holy Trinity concept.
The 4 gospels we have today was canonized by Bishop Athanasius of Alexandra in 367, 30 years after the death of Constantine. Though the first person to be credited for canonizing the gospel is Irenaeus, the bishop of Lyon in AD180, 100 years before Constantine was born. He was a disciple of Polycarp, [the Apostle John?s pupil].There are other early reliable gospel manuscripts like Codex Sinaticus, Chester Beatty Papyrus, Muratorian canon confirming the authenticity of the 4. Also Eusebius, did it before Athanasius? canon.
