The Embrace
(Aphrodite Jones)
On November twenty-fifth,1996,a sixteen year old boy and his companion murdered the entire family of one of his girlfriends.Done to acquire the family's brand new Explorer and assuage a rampant bloodlust,Roderick Ferrell further shocked the nation by declaring himself above mortal law due to the fact he was a god among mortals.Obviously either severely psychotic or a pathological liar, he was probably both.In the sleepy small town of Eustis,Fla. it was not hard for the hostile, weirdly charismatic young man to draw devotees.Sadly, all were seeking diversion.Truly believing he had walked the Earth for five centuries,Rod's wild claims and ludicrous tales inspired fear as well as private ridicule When he returned to his childhood home in Ky.he quickly reunited with his two best friends and their girls. The whole clan of five was obsessed with vampirism, the occult, and blood rituals.Rod began to toy with the belief systems and emotions of his naive group.Fiercely avowing their allegiance to Rod and their own immortality, they exchanged blood with one another often. Not surprisingly,Rod Ferrell had a severe addiction to psychedelics.Classmates made statements due to the effect he had done so much LSD for so long he never came down. Heather Wendorf,a girlfriend left behind in Fla. would unwittingly set into motion the slaughter of her own family by phoning Rod incessantly, pleading to be rescued from her home. Rod's calls to Heather became more erratic and increasingly violent.violent.He ranted that his coven would come and release her.Stating she was afraid of his instablity, she penned a goodbye to her parents and went to a friend's house.Unbeknownst to her,Rod and his captain at arms,Scott Anderson, went to her home and bludgeoned her family with a baseball bat and a crowbar.Taking the automobile keys, they then picked up the other group members, with a vague plan of going to New Orleans, leaving carnage and horror behind.Heather was so afraid she went into shock at the news. Warrants were obtained, the scruffy group arrested.Roderick Ferrell was convicted of two counts of premeditated murder and sentenced to die.Scott Anderson recieved life without parol.Heather Wendorf was granted immunity for her cooperation. With all the bizarre chaos and facts sirling about this case,Rod never once said he was sorry. He wasn't.This is a startling and worrisome look at the psyches of some of our obsessive troubled youth.Read it,and remember-this is NOT a work of fiction. It is,heartbreakingly enough, a true account.
