The Research Paper
(Rodrigues)
Chapter 1 The information age has allowed modern day students to think as researchers. In chapter one of the text, allow students to think as researchers do by giving students resources to gather information. It gives students tools to seek out information that not only will help them in their research but, will help them discover the topic chose by using: library, Internet and real world sources. It also helps with unintentional plagiarism. Research in the informational age has provided us with various research material around us with the combinations of online databases, web sites, print journals, and books. This chapter also guides students in using the Internet as an important source for research. There are various types of research discussed in this chapter. The Library Research Paper is dictated by standards of particular discipline or academic majors. Students are introduced to the most common styles of MLA and APA format styles of writing. In the Experimental research, science, social science and education, researchers rely on controlled experiments. The Experimental research has defined variables, influencing factors and specific methodologies that can be used by other researchers. For persons using this reporting styles it should be clear of value judgments. The Experimental Research report follows this pattern: abstract, statements of a problem, review of literature, Develop of Hypotheses, Methods, Results and Findings, Conclusion and References. Using this format, will enable to readers to comprehend the report better. In Fields Studies or Observation Research, people or something else is observed in their natural habitats. The primary observation is direct and given in context and situation. This research provides a way to determine how people truly behave. It may give researchers? quick information that may be quantifiable. There are three types of field studies or observational research: The case study, participant observation and non participants observation. The major focus of the case study is to teach others. In the participant study, researchers participate or join in on the activities of those whom they study. A good example of a Participant observation would be a teen sex forum where teens would be able to openly and honestly answer questions given by a researcher. The researcher would give feed back to the teens in a non ridiculing way. In nonparticipant observation, the researcher does not join in. The researcher may use various approaches when collecting information such as: surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The Multimedia Reacher Paper includes visual literacy appendices that incorporated into the research paper. It connects sound clips, original author voices specific sounds, visual illustration, or when copy writes laws allowed, letters, diaries, and manuscripts. After reading this chapter I have a better understanding of the kinds of research that is typical for my field of study, the MLA and APA writing styles, the varieties of research reports, field studies and observational research, and how multimedia research is expected by most readers
