Rifts World Book #13: Lone Star

Rifts World Book #13: Lone Star takes a look at the Texas of the Rifts Role Playing Game. Basically, there are two ?kingdoms? of note. On the top half of the state is the Coalition State of Lone Star, built upon the bones of a Pre-Rifts U.S. Military Base. The lower half of the state is home to The Pecos Empire, a wild and wooly place of banditry (and the occasional vampire incursion).
The true value of Lone Star lies in its history. In the days before the cataclysm ravaged planet Earth, the US Army housed a genetic research facility. The base was abandoned in the days following the coming of the rifts until a Coalition exploratory party rediscovered it. One of the main assets to the Coalition Army was soon put into production: the Dog Boy. Basically, a Dog Boy is a mutated canine with more intelligence, a bipedal form, and the ability to use speech and its natural psychic ability. Dogs (this is not fiction) have an unusual ability to sense the paranormal. The Dog Boys sensing ability and natural hunting instinct, coupled with its 15,000 year long working relationship with humanity, made it a natural addition to the Coalition Armed Forces, an agency devoted to ridding humanity of supernatural influences. Lone Star does house many other mutant projects, including ones involving rats, cats, bats, apes, monkeys, and other, unique Coalition creations, but none are as successful as the Dog Boy program. Another menacing aspect of Lone Star is that Desmond Bradford, the head researcher and administrator of the complex, is an brilliant, evil man with his own agenda.
The Pecos Empire lies on the Southern half of Texas, and is a loose confederation of outlaw states, rough necks and vampire infested towns. It is less a formal state and more of a series of family tribes of bandits devoted to warring amongst each other and stealing whenever the opportunity presents itself.
