Michel , scientist in molecular biology devotes his life to science, Hi specializes himself in the tranquilizers and seeks to mislead its sexual decline while projecting of create a new asexual and immortal race. As for Bruno with the insatiable libido, his perpetual search of sexual pleasure does not bring to him that frustrations until that he goes to holiday in a camp-site where he meets finally a woman, his last chance to start to live. As in all the novels of Michel Houellebecq, it is an ironic lassitude which gives the tone to the characters of his personages. He continues to criticize the feminist fight, the sexual release. The sex, indeed, become the base of the human relations and thus the source of the most unbearable complexes does not leave chances of survival to a minority of individuals. Old age is now made intolerable and the fact of to be alone, brings a bad reputation by the society. The familial Dismantling which is growing individualization and the liberal aspirations is also shown finger, entraining the decline of the occidental society. Houellebecq predicts the extinction of the human race. Elsewhere the end of the novel will assist at the appearance of a new cloned race, asexual which will connate finally the happiness of love and the peace of spirit.
