RETIREMENT AGE It is observed that retirement age differs from place to place, country to country, as well as in different organisation. There is no standard retirement age world wide for an averager worker. It does vary from 55 years to 70 years. On contrary many political leaders enjoy power even in their eighties. They never get retired. In my opinion for our country India bearing a population of 100 crore the ideal retirement age should be 55 years for an average worker. When we debate on retirement age different class of population has to be taken into consideration.People holding high office ranks like CEO's COO's and directors of corporates and public sector organisation, there is no need for a specified retirement age. They are supposed to be highly skilled people who should work till their body and mind is working perfect. For eg.A person like V.Kurien who is the CEO of Gujarath milk marketing federation an the founder of"white revolution" in India is 88 years and still working, His services, experience and ideas are required for the organisation. I personally feel politicians also there is no need of a retirement age. They should work as an when their health and mind is working well. For example Mr.Karunanidhi and Mr.Achudanandan who are respectively the chief ministers of Tamil nadu as well as Kerala states are 83 years old.Still they are giving their best for governence.Only criticism for this is a few senior people doesn't adapt to new things what we can call the 'generation gap'.The wise aperson becomes as he accepts the new things around him.Any way this is an exception from the real debate. India is a vast diverse country with one billion population whis is second in the world. In fact we can call our country a young nation. You know why?Out of one billion 40 crore are under the age of twenty two. This is the strongest point I have to discuss when we talk about the retirement age.In our country's point of view the ideal retirement age should be 55.Unemployment is the singlemost deep problem our country is facing. When we take into consideration such a huge population of unemployed youth we have to fix the retirement age of the common worker in the country as 55 and not 60 or70. this reform will help many youngsters to find a job as well as the elderly to enjoy an early retired life. But the same reform may not be the same for some other country like Germany or Japan. These countries have a sizeable population of senior citizens. For such countries ideal retirement age should be 65 or70 to keep things moving. To put every thing into a summary every country has to study its socio-economic background in a thorough way an debate on that to come into a conclusion for the retirement age of an average worker. But I would reiterate my strong view point on the retirement age of India as 55 on grounds of strong factor of unemployment.
