Blood Crazy
(Simon Clark)

Publicidade
Blood crazy is the harrowing tale of a world turned upside down overnight. It opens with two teenagers eying up a blood stain on the street, as onlookers whisper of terrible, unthinkable events that recently occured. It seems a young boys parents brutally murdered him with an axe, for no apparent reason. This is just the prelude to the oncoming horror, as children wake up all over Britian to find that their parents have went stark raving mad, and are hellbent on killing their own children.Blood Crazy may well be the purest horror novel I've ever come across. It's depiction of a world in total chaos is both vivid and horribly compelling. Taking its cue's from post apocalyptic novels in the vain of 'Day of the Triffids', it details a series of (initially) unexplainable events that change the world overnight into a living hell for all those under the age of 20. Simon Clark bombards the reader in the early stages of the tale with a series of unforgettable images of torment and violence; never once shying away from detailing true horror. There are scenes in this book that are almost unbearably sad, as we witness innocent youth being stamped out by the last generation. But theres so much more to this novel than violence and fear. It is in fact a deeply philosophical work, which puts forward some fascinating ideas on the subject of evolution. What begins as a tale of survival horror quickly becomes a treatise on the human condition. Asking some huge questions about our existence, our place in the world, and even the true nature of God.Why are the parents driven to slaughter their young? The answers are spellbinding, and leave you questioning whether in fact the may just be true. Could this happen? This has to be my favourite novel of all time. Its written in a style that is easily accesible, told as it is from the viewpoint of a troubled teen who finds himself hounded by his bloodthirsty parents through a nightmarish wasteland. And its realistic. The survivors here feel like real teenagers; they hide from the reality by getting drunk and stoned, they treat each other as meat, some see the new world as a place of freedom, where they can live out their every sick fantasy, whilst others strive to build a new and better world, all the while defending themselves from the thousands of insane adults out for their blood. Its enthralling. I can't recommend this book enough; Clark is a writer of awesome power, and this is by far his finest work. If you love your horror pure, and blindingly intelligent, give this one a try. And when your done reading it, stop and think on its message. It still sends shivers up my spine. Genius.
