This is the true story of Edgar Cayce, one of the most remarkable men who ever lived. Written by one who knew him and investigated him while he lived, it tells of his astounding prophecies, insights into the soul and the medical cures he prescribed while in a trance. The book begins with a visit to Cayce by a Dr. Hugo Munsterberg of Harvard. Edgar is already quite famous and often referred to as America?s most mysterious man. It is one thing in particular though, that has brought Dr. Munsterberg here, it is Cayce?s seeming ability to diagnose and treat difficult diseases while in a semi-conscious State, though he had not the slightest knowledge of medicine when awake. Dr Munsterberg is sure that Cayce is a fake, and has come here to expose him. With the Munsterberg episode over, chapter two takes us back to Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Edgar?s boyhood. One thing that stands out in these years is his interest in, and love for the Bible. He is only ten when he receives his own copy, which he has requested himself. None of his childhood friends are the least bit interested, but Cayce loves it so much that he has read the entire book in less than six months, and has even begun reading it for a second time. The same can?t be said for his schoolwork however, and this leads to an interesting happening that will prove helpful in the years that follow. At the age of twenty-one Cayce developes a paralysis of the throat muscles, that causes him to lose his voice. When doctors can do nothing for him, hypnosis is tried, but again, while his voice is fine while in the hypnotic state, he is unable to speak when awakened. Later he enters a self-induced trance, where he recommends medication and manipulative therapy which successfully restores his voice and repairs his system. When he discovers that he can help others as he has himself, Edgar has found his calling. Cayce however, makes his living as a photographer and takes no remuneration from those he helps. A devout Christian from his youth, he is shocked by what he hears when he gives the first of a series of readings on astrology and psychic phenomena. It is here that the story enters a completely new phase. A Twentieth century classic- A must for all who question the meaning of life.
