From Sex To Superconsciousness
(Osho, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh)

Publicidade
"A book that is as infamous as it?s famous" that?s what is written on the cover. And it?s easy to see why, when one starts flipping through the pages. This book is based on a series of lectures that Osho had given in a reputed institute of Bombay. He had been invited there to discourse on the topic of "love" a subject we Indians love to rant about, and expected Osho, bearded and saintly as he was to do what other so called enlightened Indian saints have done ? elevate the topic to platonic and spiritual hights, but Osho being who he was tackled the subject at it?s root. The organizers were so shocked that they left the hall even before the lecture had ended for the topic that Osho had decided to concentrate upon was far removed from their notion of respectable. Osho made it very clear that to understand the awesome power of love ? a force, through which one can attain enlightenment, one first has to study, understand and harness the most primitive of all urges (energies)-SEX. Without the study of sex, it?s impossible to fully understand love. For as Osho puts if Nirvana or Enlightenment is the top most rung of the ladder, you can only reach it by climbing up through rung of sex that will take you to the rung of love. Moreover he also says that it?s only during sex that we are first able to experience the absolute bliss of the state of Samadhi. When we climax, for a few precious seconds our mind becomes empty and soul opens up to the powers of the divine. But this state of absolute bliss that lasts for a few seconds can be prolonged to hours through meditation. But this can be done only when your mind and body has had its fill of sex and can open up to the call of the divine. To further build up this point he cited the example of the carvings on the walls of the Khajuraho temples - the soft looks, the perfect calmness on the faces of men and women engaged in various acts of sex proves that the artisans of those days understood sex as a gift of the Gods. Further Osho says that the devotees, before they were allowed to the temple were asked to study the carvings on the outer walls and this can be understood as a cleansing ritual so that when the devotee finally entered the temple he/she would have been purged of all sexual feelings, because only then can one open one?s soul to the voice of God. Osho is feels pained that this most powerful life force instead of being revered and respected has been as treated as something dirty and destructive or to put it plainly "a necessary evil". And this is nothing but a crime against nature and Osho holds all the religious leaders and the so-called saints responsible for this crime. Osho sites numerous other examples and by the time one is through with the book ones entire perspective about sex will have changed.
It?s a beautiful book and especially relevant for a county like India where sex is considered a taboo and has been repressed for so many centuries that its now bursting out in a most destructive fashion but its no less relevant for the west that needs to be reminded of the spiritual aspect of this awesome creative force. This book is Osho?s gift to humanity and must read for everyone.
