Pride And Prejudice
(jane austen)

Publicidade
An evergreen tale by a master storyteller Jane Austen, which defies all barriers of race, colour, culture. Though set in the 18th /early19th century England, with its quaint traditions and lifestyle, the story continues to be one of the most widely adapted all over the world.
Jane Austen, like most women of those times lived a sheltered life in the precincts of home and hearth. So she rarely detracts from familiar grounds, but is perfect in portraying the subtle politics of domestic conflicts. Perhaps Madam Ekta Kapoor could take a tip or two from her, on how not to go overboard when depicting the wrath of women scorned.
For today when the stories being churned out by these serials spell mayhem and extreme emotions, Jane Austen is still refreshing with her balanced and rational approach to the universal themes of love, marriage, betrayal. In fact the only over the top and comical character, Mrs.Bennet seems almost sweet and pleasant as compared to some of the avenging vixens churned out by the ?K brigade?.

Personally, I think there would be no lover of literature who does not know the story yet. So no point in telling. But what I would like to state is that if in 2006 a young girl in India can relate to the ideology of a character such as Lizy from 18th century England, in her quest for a life partner who gives her her rightful space and yet loves her for what she is. Isn?t that what timeless classics are made of. For the uninitiated, I would suggest watch all the movies based on it over the years. Be it the latest Keira Knightly starrer by the same name, or Gurinder Chaddha?s Bride and Prejudice starring Aishwarya Rai, or the quirky but adorable Bridget Jones Diary. My personal favourite was a hindi TV serial years ago called Trishna which was yes (wonders don?t cease to exist) based on pride and prejudice. As a 15 year old I fell in love with the delectable Tarun Dhanrajgir playing the reticent Darcy. I have no idea what is the average age of readers visiting this site but if you are hitting the wrong side of 30 then you would know what I am talking about. I would not be surprised, if one day my grand daughter runs up to me with a copy of this books screaming, ? Granny you must read this!!? That is, if all remains well with my Darcy.
