Jacks Loft

As I took up my employment at one of the South's most famous arboretums little did I know how much this would change my life. My employer was a real gentleman, he was dedicated plants man. He was respected the world over. It was like working and living next door to a country squire.
My fellow colleagues were equally a unique collection of people. This people certainly knew how to work hard and play hard. Work started at 7.30am sharp, this meant getting up at 5.30am and going to bed no latter then 9pm. Before I joined the firm two members of staff had dared each other for years to scrump a few apples from Jack's loft but never serried out their fantasy. During one of my lunch breaks in the early autumn I decided to carry out the dare. I climbed up into Jack's loft, as it was affectionately known, yes I filled up my pocket and my bra's with red juicy apples. I went back to work, after I had been taking cuttings for twenty minutes I decided to liven up the atmosphere. I asked our senior grafter I will call Fred not his real name) Fred, have you ever felt on a hot sunny afternoon you would like to have something red juicy succulent and a little bit crunchy? As I looked up I threw every colleague an apple. The laughed and laughed till they could laugh no more. Eventually our foreman delegated us some more duties. One made unofficial brew up; some of the staff was sent off to plant thousands of cuttings. This episode certainly made our afternoon pass extremely quickly.
In all myself and follow colleagues were having the time of our lives and getting paid for it. That said we were all extra productive. When our boss pulled up in his land rover we were still chuckling to our selves. Or boss looked a bit surprised. I volunteered our foreman was excellent and we really loved our work. He smiled at all the staff then gave our foreman a few orders for the next day. The boss then jumped back into his land rover a scratched off up a dirt track. The team of staff consisted of vicar trainee teacher students and some local housewife?s, plus a few academics plus your normal manual workers. That said we all had the time of our lives.
