The Shadowed Woman
(Sarah Diamond)
When Carl suggests to his wife, Anna Howell, that they relocate to Abbots Newton her immediate reaction was enthusiastic. Anna, an author of thrillers, currently has to contend with writer's block following a traumatic experience. She hopes that changing her environment will help her overcome this problem. In Abbots Newton Anna has problems with the easy going rural lifestyle and with the fact that they live rather far removed from everywhere else. With the exception of one female neighbour, Anna has no real contact with anyone and she bears this as a heavy burden. But there is more going on - Anna has a feeling that all is not well inside their home. She feels the house makes her depressed and that she is constantly being shadowed. When Anna accidentally discovers that they have bought the cottage of the notorious Rebecca Fisher she reckons that she has found the inspiration for her new crime novel. Anna becomes completely obsessed with Rebecca, who was ten years old when she murdered her childhood friend Eleanor by stabbing her with a knife, and she embarks on researching exactly what happened. But when Anna buries herself deeper and deeper into the case of Rebecca Fisher a whole new truth gradually starts to surface, a truth completely different to that which one thought one would find... With The Shadowed Woman Sarah Diamond has written a thriller that shouts to be read. This tale will undoubtedly keep you captivated from beginning to end. Everyone with an inquisitive nature will recognise a part of Anna Howell's character in themselves. The Shadowed Woman doubtlessly deserves to be called a literary thriller. Sarah Diamond has delivered an outstanding piece of work and I look forward to read more of her work.
