We Live In Deeds, Not In Years.
(Pinaki Goswami)

Publicidade
Introduction: Long life is desired by all. Nobody likes to die early. We read in newspapers of men who lived one hundred years or more. If those men left no noble account of their lives behind them, we may ask whether their life was worth living. They do not live in the memory of men. If their memory is not cherished by men, their long life has no value.they are soon forgotten by men because they lived in years, not in deeds.
The ideal life:The value of our life is measured by noble deeds and not by long years. When a man fulfils the noble mission of life, he lives a true life, no matter whether he dies early or lives long.Life's mission is not simply to eat, drink and be merry. A man must have a noble form. He must do something for the good of his countrymen and the world. A self-centred man may be rich and may live long but nobody cared to show any regard for him or remember him after his death. So, long life should not be the only aim of our life. We shall try to live long but at the same time we must make use of our long life profitably. We must do noble deeds which will make us immortal.
In this world many great men died rather early in life.During the short span of life, they did so much work for the good of others that people cherish their memory even after their death. Such a life is worth-living though it may be painfully short. Such men gain immortality in their death. In the history of the world there are many instances of such men.
Illustration of ideal life:Sankaracharya died early. But his countrymen cannot forget him.during his short life he did enough for the good of his countrymen. Swami Vivekananda died rather early. He did not reach even forty. We have read what he had done for the Indians in America and Europe and in India also. His life has been an inspiration to many. Can we ever forget him? Can lovers of English peotry forget the names of Shelley, Byron and Keats? All of them died early but their poetic works have made them immortal.
Illustration from nature:The rose is a beautiful flower. It does not last long;but as long as its lasts, its beauty and sweet smell give joy to men.In this way the short-lived rose fulfils the mission of its life and we remember it for ever.A tree may live long but it does not please men as the blooming rose does. So the short life of a rose is far superior to the long life of a tree without beauty and fragrance.
Conslusion:Thus we find that the worth of a thing depends upon quality and not quantity. A successful life is measured by noble deeds and not by years.Of course, there were born men who lived long.During their long life they did many noble deeds for the good of their countrymen and the world. They are remembered not their long life but for their noble deeds. We may mention the name of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore or Mahatma Gandhi. They will ever be remembered by men for their achievements and not for their long life.
