The Unseen Promise
(Lynnette Brashear)
The unseen promise? I was studying John chapter 4, particularly starting at verse 48 where Jesus stated, ?Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.? Many times we find ourselves asking the Lord for signs?OVER AND OVER AND OVER again and each time the promise remains the same, but because we see no evidence that what was promised will come to pass, we keep wanting to see signs. This passage tells of how a man had a sick child and he was asking, no he was begging Jesus to come with him to heal his child. Jesus didn?t have to go to the child and lay hands on him, he healed the child from where He was. Then instructions were given to the man to go and He stated that his son will live. At this point the text said that the man believed Jesus and departed. There are two things that quickened in my spirit after reading this portion. Number one, he believed what Jesus said. This is very crucial as faith, believing is very important. We must believe that He is able to do what He says He will do. And secondly, the man followed instructions. Jesus told him to depart and the man immediately believed and set out for home. He didn?t stay and beg and plead and scream and say, ?um?.can?t you show me some sort of sign that this is coming to pass?. Jesus said it, he believed it and immediately followed instructions and left. Many times we hear the word but mess it up by not acting on the word. We start questioning, ?did I hear that?? ?was that God?? ?is that really possible because it just doesn?t seem realistic?it?s like too good to be true? and by the time we get around to following instructions we?ve talked ourselves out of trying to achieve the impossible and settle for mediocre lives and a whole lot of wishful thinking. This man had no evidence to believe what Jesus said, but he did. Upon his arrival to his home, he determined that the child was indeed healed. He then asked, already knowing, when did the child?s health improve? The people answered giving the time that Jesus spoke it. Now another thing dropped in my spirit as I read this portion. The healing took place way back when Jesus spoke it. So the man traveled home and found his son healed. It didn?t take place at the time the man discovered it; but the healing took place back when Jesus spoke it. In short, if Jesus tells you of a promise, just because you see no evidence of it in your life, just like the healing of this child, your promise, your healing, your breakthrough took place long ago and at the appointed time, you?ll see it. So, don?t question God?s word, be patient and don?t grow weary doing good works, because the time is coming. Keep believing regardless of what things look like, there?s a promise waiting for you and it will be well worth the wait.
