A Pact With The Devil (story)
(Juan José, Arreola)
A Pact with the Devil (story) Juan Jose Arreola. ... Revestíos of humility; because: God resists to the magnificent ones, and gives grace humble... to Pedro 1 5: 5. - I decided to begin my commentary, with the fragment of this Biblical appointment, to speak of this remarkable Mexican writer: J. J.Arreola. This story, Pact with the Devil, makes us cross the footpath of the agility and the virtuosity to narrate a fact; adding fiction more fiction in one formulates that single it can be labeled as original; the author introduces to us in the same one, with showing the spectator haste who arrives slow at a cinematographic function. Our protagonist attends a title film homónimo, being with another personage with who she begins to comment the same one... It is not my intention to repeat the story, since these commentaries assume difusivos of the human knowledge; as so acertadamente she proclaims this page to it, if, to offer a small introduction that insists to our readers to know literary authors often little spread. This story amalgamates within its simpleza the virtuosity of the form and the content in equal proportions, not excelling one by on the other; let us say that it would be the gold rule to evaluate an artistic work. The story in if it is an economic glorification of the virtue of humility beyond the material values and possessions, without getting to be the vindication of the poverty. It surprises the agility and it pretends simpleza of his development until taking us to end a happy, but credible and completely coherent with the same story; during the development of the same one, the good relation between the personage and his wife extends, which is confirmed in the final closing of this narration. We say pretends simpleza, because contrary to which many create, very few writers have that gift and Jose Arreola is one of them: self-taught person, performance several offices in their life, exerting until teaching and finally were devoted like literato. This it is another alive example of the divine gifts reaffirming that all talent comes from the highest one; we can model it in specialized schools, extend our culture, learn techniques, etc. but from not having it anybody it will come in our aid. Arreola resigned to appear in the Latin American Boom, when saying of the he himself: "it did not want to participate in that registered tradename"... That phenomenon implemented by some editorialista with much commercial and expert sense of smell of the human vanity, chose that pomposa and onomatopéyica denomination, as now we see with the justice exerted by the Time, its generosity in forgetfulnesses and omissions of great authors, who far of the publicity gave works of great value, by assumption ignored by the public thickness del. The case of this brilliant author and his Confabularios. Most famous "discovered" with this formula that between lines animated to the Latin Americans to think about the existence of writers whom in anything they would envy to the European and the best thing: there were ready editorials to publish in a species almost patriotic fervor, texts generated by the South American brothers... Today, to more than thirty years, we can separate gold of the gravel and see famous writers write up novelillas to order; relegating its important works to the silence of being never published more, as a Ej.: Conversations in the Cathedral, of Vargas Llosa, disappeared and forgotten; the list is long. The good thing of this advertising phenomenon was to discover some authors of great was worth, but the paid price was high. In addition one to the remarkable characteristics was the appearance of a consuming public before other people's to this market and not of demanding readers, to use identical word: it was an extraordinary boom of sales... I invite to them to read to Juan Jose Arreola, to discover it; which will not regret if they appreciate genuine Literature without tricks nor artifices, to try to accustom day to us o day... Lontue
