The Reward Of Obedience (continuation)
(Nathaniel Oluseye)
?It shall be well with you, use it judiciously in helping the poor, and do not envy anyone nor despise anyone, whoever came to ?? for a helping hand, always put the fear of God and ?.. Parents? ?? first priority continually in mind, and God in his efficacy and omni potency shall continue to reward.. With good of the land. At this juncture, Obinna could only make little of the old man?s statements; he was about asking the old man to expansiate his speech that he could not hear anymore sound from his behind. And to his utmost surprise, he could find no one. He was baffled and terrified; he could not help being silent anymore that he started shouting at the top of his voice, saying ?Old man! Old man!! Old man!!!, Old mannnnnnnnnnnnn. It was the shout of old man by Obinna that woke his parents to rose from the bed cut-out from the wooden, Iroko tree his father cut few years ago from the matured ?Iroko? tree near his farmland. They hurriedly left the less ventilated room for where Obinna was lying desperately, shouting, ?Old man?. His parents asked him series of questions, about what had gone wrong with him, but he was unconscious of all that was happening around him, he was only crying out, ?Old man?. They went into prayer abruptly, and Obinna?s father assured his wife to keep her mind at rest, saying God Is in Control. With half-heartedness, and left his room for want of evidence of all that had happened to their son. The next day, later in the evening Obinna explained all his experience of the impromptu encounter he had at the previous night to his parent, and his parent promised to report the issue to their chapel pastor on his behalf. The next day, Obinna?s parents informed him of the latest development, that there was nothing to be scared about, instead he should rather keep on doing good at all times. At The School Assembly Ground Two weeks later, Obinna?s name was mentioned as the best student of the year in his set, he was given a package full of meritious awards while a piece of advice was given to the rest students, as an incentive. Their headmaster further advised, that they should have good behaviours worthy of emulation for other contemporaries. Obinna felt on top of the world when his name was mentioned and rewarded as the first best student among his mates, though he was not so much surprised about it, because of the report given to him by his parent, as a feed back from their Chapel arch bishop. Obinna?s success soon reached his parent in the village, and they were filled with ecstasy hearing it. Obinna Is Lucky Again Two days later, some foreign missionaries arrived to their school, from the embassy to pick the best two Christian students from the various schools in the town, to help them further their education into the higher education abroad. Obinna was lucky that he was recommended as one of the best students of the year with other students who were senior to him. Based on the outlined protocol his name ought not to be selected nor listed/appear on the students list, but on the strength of their headmaster?s support, and those of every member of the staff, his name was listed. Obinna escaped through as one of the overall best two students after the screening exercise?s result was released. Three days later, Obinna had been preparing for the foreign land, his parents were happy about his success, and they were happy, rejoicing that at last their effort had not been wasted. And all his friends, those from his school, and in their village including those that had been ridiculing him for the good moral he had been portraying so far accompanied him to the airport. Before their flight took off, he was given the opportunity of addressing large number of students, he therefore advised his audience and every onlooker to never desist from doing good, and to always keep to the commandments of God and those of their parents, using the story of his life as a case study, while delivering the address. He rounded off with the clause; ?The Reward Of Obedience?.
