THE MYSTERY OF THE PANTAMIME CAT

The five find-outers are looking forward for a mystery to be solved so as to spend the Easter holidays in an exiting way. They thought of setting the local policeman on a wild goose chase. So, Frederick Trotteville alias Fatty and his friend Larry disguised themselves as ruffians and plant themselves on the policeman?s path and escape never to be caught. They leave some ?clues? on the spot.

The policeman Mr. Pippin, who is only a temporary charge in the place of Mr. Goon, takes the incident very seriously and goes to the small theatre hoping to catch the criminals. The five children with their dog, named Buster, visit the place in the evening to place some false clues and happen to see the Pantomime cat, as the person in the cast had not removed his costume. While waiting for the criminals to come Mr. Pippins discovers that there had been a robbery in the theatre manager?s room. He finds that culprit must have been one of the actors of the theatre group.

Mr. Goon returns to take over the case and being misled by the clues left by the children he suspects Zoe Markham who played Dick Whittington and he makes the innocent Boysie, the cast of pantomime cat to confess as an accomplice. The children repent the mischief they have done and try to find out the true culprit so as to save the two innocents.

They get the autographs of all the players and find out that Alec Grant, who impersonates women characters, is of the same size as Boysie could have easily worn the costume of pantomime cat and drugged Boysie and the theatre manager. On verifying the facts they find that Alec Grant has a twin sister who impersonated him on the stage performance at the time when robbery was done. She had given an autograph to one of their friends. By comparing the autograph they had from Alec they prove the impersonation. They confess every thing to Mr. Pippin who helps them to solve the case for him. In the end Alec owns the crime and children are appreciated for their efforts in spite of the mischief done by them in the beginning. The way Fatty disguise himself as a foreigner and misleads Mr. Goon make children laugh so much.
