The diwali is an important hindu festival.it falls in the month of november,twenty days after dussehra.on this day ram returned to ayodhya with lakshmana and sita after an exile of 14 years.people showed their joy by lighting earthen lamps on the roofs of their houses at night.

deewali means deepawali or the row of lights.two or three days before the festival,people get their houses wightwashed and cleaned.they decorate the with pictures and festoons.shopkeepers decorate their shops artistically.there is a great rush at sweet shops and baazaars.shopkeepers open new account book on this day.

people send diwali greetings to their relatives and friends .at night we see rows and rows of lightened earthen lamps,candles,electric bulbs.fireworks are let off and crackers are exploded.people worship laxmi and lord ganesha.they think that godess visits their houses at midnight so they keep their doors open.some people gamble on this day,this practice should be stopped.

diwali is a festival of enjoyment and merry making.it is also called festival of light.the night is turned into day. the markets look like a fairyland.the festival is so attractive that non-hindus participate in it.
