The Old Age Of The Perpetuous Father
(Guerra Junqueiro)

Publicidade
In this book, Guerra Junqueiro shoots bullets against the Church but not against God. Junqueiro's anticlericalism manifests here in a big way, with ferocious criticisms to the priests and popes, their greediness and avarice and all the possible faults. But it also appears the feeling of religiousness, as the author doesn't deny God's existence, just the validity and morality of the Catholic Church. This book was illustrated by Leal da Câmara, who reflects in his aquarels the feelings and impressions of Guerra Junqueiro, with good natured priests and images of Jesus chating with Voltaire and God spitting. In a technical aspect, Junqueiro uses rimes in every poem, although he doesn't stick too much to the versification.
