THE LAST DON

Its not an attempt to compare this Mario puzo classic with any other classics, but an expression of my enthralling ride through this fiction. The story begins with Don Demonico clericuzio christening his grand sons after the great santadio war. These clericuzios were basically Sicilians, mafians, most of their people having been killed, saved their heir demonico by hiding him in America .He builds up an empire in America, to face the illegal society, brings up the Bronx enclave with clericuzian men supply from sicily.A rival clan, the santadio, equally powerful, more ferocious and blood loving than the clericuzios were also growing up in America.

Don Demonico had four sons and a daughter. Giorgio, Vincent, petie, silvio and rose Marie .demonico?s sister?s son pippi de Lena grew up as his no. 1 hitman man in the west. Don Santadio had six sons, only Jimmy santadio, Fonso and Italo?s names have been mentioned.

Demonico being a man of great principles made a peaceful agreement with the santadios which in the long run would bring them great fortune and let his men into the legal society; his lifetime dream would be achieved. The peace between the families was breached as rose Marie fell in love with jimmy santadio which let the santadio murder silvio and thus one betrayal led to another and another .the don was provoked, yet he approved his daughter?s marriage with jimmy santadio.the Clericuzio took the santadio by surprise and destroyed their family and Rose Marie was brought back on the eve of their marriage.

This marks the beginning of the story.

Rose Marie?s son was christened, Dante clericuzio and that of pippi as croccifixio de Lena (Cross).Giorgio was given the Wall Street and did the paper business; Vincent took over the hotels and petie, the construction business and the Bronx enclave.Pippi de Lena became the western bruglione and was sent to Las Vegas, the Xandau hotel to assist Alfred gronevelt.

Cross grew up as a fine young man with great looks and mannerisms on the other hand Dante , a short and ferocious guy.

Rose Marie was affected psychologically with her husband and brother?s death often got into her fits, telling Dante about the santadio war and how she would wish to see pippi, her brothers and the don dead.Thus Dante grew up as a santadio rather than a clericuzio. He made secret agreements with Jim losey, a local cop and murdered pippi de Lena.Cross finding Dante?s hands in his father?s murder knew it was not going to be long for him. He took charge, convinced Dante and losey to stay in one of his villas, brought Lia Vazzi with some of his best men, set them up near Dante?s apartment in Xanadu?s villa. At the same time Dante had planned to finish cross and dump him up in the desert with Jim losey?s help and later convince his grand father.
But Lia vazzi and his men finished losey and Cross murdered Dante. They tried as far as possible, not to leave any evidence and burnt a villa to leave none, but the don needed no evidence. Cross was brought; he had no choice but to accept the truth. He explained the whole thing and awaited the don?s reply.Don told him to pay for himself with money and should never move into the clericuzios and for vazzi with his life. Cross at last convinced the don by giving him half his share in the Xanadu and saved both lazzi and himself.Cross went over to live with Athena aquitane, an actress along with her autistic daughter Bethany, in France.

The story hasn?t ended , the last side of the book gives a twist an unexpected one ,the don?s intelligence and perfect sense of judgment fills us with awe ?great?great??..great???.simply great.

In no way this fiction could be compared with that of the godfather.Its good but not great. This fiction also has some Hollywood parts but it doesn?t have much to do with the story.
