The Da Vinci Code

The first thing to make clear as regards this novel is that one can find it at the Fiction Section of the library or the bookstore. And this is the first reason that surprises us when we see in the first page the headline in capital letters which says FACTS. There the author describes the information that appears in the novel as historical facts or truth that must be recognized by readers.
The first truth is the existence of the Sion Priorate secret society which the author describes as an European secret society founded in 1099, validated after being found a serie of records in 1975 that represents not just proofs of the secret society but also a list of members which includes important figures like Victor Hugo, Sir Isaac Newton and Leonardo Da Vinci of course.
The second truth is about the Opus Dei which the author describes as a group of catholic people deeply devoted that has appeared as controversial due to accusations of washing brain, constraint and practice of self-mortification from part of ex members.
The third truth is that all the information about art works, architecture, records and secret rituals in this novel is described accurately.
The problem with these FACTS is that if the reader investigates a bit more he/she soon realizes that those are not truths like he wants us to believe.
Firstly, if you look information about the Sion Priorate you will find out that it was founded in 1956 and not in 1099, in a French town and its founder members were Pierre Plantard, Andre Bonhomme, Jean Delaval and Armand Defago. You will also find stories on how Plantard forged a serie of records to make people believe that it was founded in Jerusalem during the First Crusade, that several respected figures had belonged to his organization and that in the present various members were also powerful and well-known personalities. This farce was discovered in 1993 when in Plantard´s house were discovered a serie of records forged by him, and among others, one which stated that Plantard was the legitimate king of France.
Being discovered he admitted that everything had been a fake.
Secondly, it is truth that the Opus Dei is a group of catholic people that in the last years has been a controversial topic in the EEUU and that it has a building valued in 47 million in New York city. The problem is that I find this statement so ambiguous though true, when it says that it has been a controversial topic due to a serie of accusations which the author takes and use to describe the priorate and its members.
In third place and as regards architecture we have no complete coincidence with what the author states in the book. He says that in the contruction of the crystal pyramid of the Luvre Museum were used 666 panels. The truth is, according to Glassweb, that the pyramid was made up with 673 pieces in total. As regards the art works the author states that Leonardo Da Vinci was assigned together with Predis brothers to make a painting celebrating the inmaculate conception by the sisters of the Inmaculate Conception of Milan. And that this assigment leaded to the creation of The Virgen of the Rocks. It is true that as mentioned in the novel, there are two versions of this painting, but on the opposite of what the author states in the novel it was not as a consequence of anger of the sisters for the painting but due to Leonardo, as well as Predis brothers, wanted more money for this painting and decided to sell it to a third party and reproduce another one for the sisters. The Virgen of the Rocks, e Conception of Milan.do Da vinci the pyramid is made up with 673 pieces in total.&# 0;
The difference between the two paintings is a minimum. The only significant difference, except damage made along years like other art works of that time, is the fact that Uriel is pointing in one.
This novel has arisen too much controversy, butin my opinion controversy would had been less if the author had made much research or if he had limited himself to write the novel without stating facts and truths.
The truth is that the percentage of truth is not important in a fiction novel. This is not about educate or inform, that is about entertainment. With this behaviour what he achieved was to confuse people and of course, increasing their sells.
