Cesar having defeated Pompey makes his triumphal entry into Rome. As the procession passes through the streets a soothsayer calls out to Cesar ?Beware the Ides of March?.Brutus and Cassius, talking together, hear the people shout. Brutus says he fears that, through he loves him, the people will choose Cesar for their king. Cassius discloses his secret jealousy of Cesar and tries to infuse Brutus with the same feeling. Cesar tells Antonyh that he thinks Cassius dangerous, but Antony allays his fears.Brutus hears from Casca that thrice a crown has been offered to Cesar and thrice he has refused it. A violent thunderstorm in Rome is thought by the people to be an ill omen. Cassius meeting Casca persuades him that Cesar will be a tyran. Casca gradually falls in with Cassius?s ideas and they agree to try and win over Brutus to their way thinking. That night Brutus cannot sleep. Lucius, his servant, has found a paper in his study urging him to act against Cesar. Then Cassius, Casca and the other conspirators against Cesar come and divulge their plan to slay Cesar and also perhaps, Mark Antony. Now during the thunderstorm Calphuria has had devil dreams. She therefore begs Cesar not to stir from the house that day. Cesar says he will go forth; even after a warning also from the auguress. Calphurnia persuades him to send Antony to the Senate House to say he is not well. Eventually, fearing to be thought a coward, Cesar goes. On his way Artemidorus, a Sophist, writes a message warning him to beware Brutus, Cassius and the other of the conspirators. He tries to persuade Cesar to read it, but on hearing that it only concerns himself personally, pushes at aside. As arranged the conspirators crowd round Cesar with petitions. At the given moment Casca stabs him in the neck, the others follow suit and Brutus last of all. Cesar dies. Confusion follows. Anxious to win Mark Antony, Brutus invites him to his house and they apparently make friends. Antony begs to be allowed to speak a funeral oration . Brutus addresses the people, telling them why Cesar was murdered. Then Antony comes with the body, makes his celebrated oration, which turns the public mind against Brutus and the other conspirators. The people determinate to avenge his death.Octavius Cesar whom Julius has adopted, flights the conspirators at Philippi, where they are beaten. Brutus, rather than be taken prisoners, orders his servant Strato to hold his sword and turn away his face while he runs upon it. He runs upon it end dies. On hearing of his death, Anthonyh says: This way the noblest Roman of them all.
