What's Happiness To You?
(Madhu Ahuja)
Is it that happiness determined by money, our vehicle, our flat, friends or location that we live in, our work load, dresses we wear? Not really. Yes, the above all give us a sense of security but do not determine our true happiness. For example: For many years I was an Information manic. I would read newspapers, magazines, watch TV, listen to radio, read on the net etc. So gaining my information of what's happening around the world made me feel ?happy''. But just a few days ago, my dad cancelled subscription of a leading newspaper. I went crazy. I ran to a near by mini sea shore to read the same newspaper. I didn't get the paper there. I gave the hope of reading this newspaper (which I was reading for 5 years) on a daily basis. Bottomline: I was addicted to reading the newspaper every day. So when I didn't get it for a day, I felt sad! But now I realise my happiness is not determined if I get to read a newspaper each day or not or I get to watch my favourate show on TV or not. I'm happy because I'm alive, simple. We are increasingly determining our happiness with the kind of job we do, how much work we do, excessively working to show our importance of living, reasoning each day ?Am I worth living?'' with the productivity of job we do each day. But this is wrong. Do not get addicted to materials, people and places. They are not constant in our lives. The fact that you are healthy and living itself is happiness.
