A Russian Journal
(John Steinbeck, Robert Capa)
Steinbeck, the writer, and Capa, the photographer, were at a bar, without work to do, just talking about what to do whit their lives. It was 1947. At beginning, they think it was just talking, but both decided to travel. Not to travel, only, but to visit, and report events, at Stalin's Soviet Union. At that time no strangers go in there - specially American people. But they went. In this diary, with beautiful images and text, they show us the common life at Soviet Union just before Second War. People were suffering, but have good expectations. There were poorness everywhere, but Russians, Ukrainians and so seems to be happy, innocent people. Well, at the same time the book goes telling us some stories they see and learn at that land, it tells us about Capa and Steinbeck relationship. It was not easy. They have very different habits. When one wants to sleep, the other wants to walk. One take several ours at the bath. The other likes to do everything in a hurry. Capa wrote about Steinbeck. And Steinbeck about Capa. At these chapters, they are so bad humored, that it is impossible, for the reader, do not smile. Images, text, historical importance of the relate and of the authors - two of the XX century world journalism biggest stars - turn this book into an indispensable reading..
