Resumo de Helena - Machado de Assis

Conselheiro Vale was a rich man, and had a loving case with a woman who had migrated from RS, she had a daughter, Helena, which he adopts. Conselheiro Vale dies, and in his will he alleged that Helena was his daughter and that she should take his place in the family, everyone believes taht, however she knows that isn't his real daughter, but in her anguish of ascending socially ends up acepting that. The at first, D. Úrsula reacts with certain prejudice to the arrive of Helena, but in elapsing of the narrative she's going winning D. Úrsula's love. Estácio, however, was a good son, and makes the father's will without investigating anything. Dr. Camargo thinks that thing is an absurd, because he wante to marry his daughter, Eugênia, with Estacio for they become rich to the costs of Estácio's money, and one more family member would only reduce the part of Estácio's inheritance. Helena takes her place in the family like a fiber woman, a true housewife, takes care very well of her new family, drives the house better than D. Úrsula did, and impresses not only the family as whole society in general, because besides being a balanced woman as little that existed, she was beautiful, sensitive and rich. In elapsing of the narrative, Helena goes impressing Estácio more and more, and he ends up being in love with her, and she with him. There comes the subject X of the book, one side Estácio, martyring himself for impassioning for his supposed sister, what was a sin, and in another side Helena, also impassioned by Estácio, this knew about all truth, but she couldn't play everything for the high and to be with him, after all she had received and inheritance fortune. In this point, then, appears Mendonça, who falls in love with Helena but also asks for Eugênia in marriage to try to forget Helena. The possessed a small farm, and next to this small farm there was a simple, poor house, and Helena used to always visit this small farm; one day Estácio decided to follow her, and there he met Salvador and went to remove satisfactions about Helena's visits. Salvador began telling him a great history, and surprised Estácio when he revealed him that Helenawas his daughter, not of Conselheiro Vale, and the whole history of Helena's life. On this same day, after a strong rain Helena is weakened, to the edge of the death, estácio, taken by his strong love goes take care of Helena and he makes her this declaration. Helena dies.
