The Da Vinci Code
(Dan Brown)
The rudiments of Christianity are so intertwined with the study of Humanity that the fundamentals of this religion are a fascinating study even for a Non-believer like me.The creative genius of Leonardo Da Vinci is so mammoth in its proportion that the various manifestations of his Art are in reality the fountainheads of modern day pursuits like Scrabble and Crossword puzzles and even Math quizzes. The author Dan Brown has endeavoured to use these intricate thoughts to weave a very fast-paced tale of intrique and mystery, history and Fanatism, age old beliefs and modern gadgetry, romance and hate.Through these radicals is born a story which encourages the reader to become a student once more. Each challenge taken up by the erudite Professor Langdon and the quick-witted Sophie are challenges for the reader. I think this is the USP (or the Unique Selling Point) of this book.An author capable of stirring a reader, any reader as a matter of fact from a state of passive third person like lethargy to an intensely oriented state of involvement from the beginning of this narrative to the end of it, really has achieved what he set out to do. Any story which contains in its native conformation all the elements of a magnum opus really deserves a reading ,then a revising and then a reviewing of sorts!!! The backdrop of this amazing amalgam of mystery, religious extemist values and family loyalties has within its storyline ample room for more abject emotions- love, attraction, humour and even fatalism. The Professor and Sophie are both projected as people of impeccable professional proficiency which draws a very spontaneous sense of regard and respect from the reader. The story is set in locales designed to give the reader a feel of having visited all the exotic spots in his dream travel itenary- The Louvre, the Westminister Abbey and the ancient Churches and chapels in Europe and London. The book also has astrong undertone of research undertaken and executed by the author. Of course the book has drawn very passionate and diametrically opposite reactions. My personal viewpoint is that Dan Brown's well written intellectually stimulating work must be taken as such andno element of judgement should mar this enjoyment of the reader.
