Aesop's Fables
(Aesop's)

Publicidade
Aesop?s Fables are the collection of universally appealing and moralistically inclined stories, which sometimes referred to as Aesopica. The author, whose works have enthralled generations of readers across the divide of race and creed himself has a hazy biography. It is said that Aesop was a slave who lived his life in stifling bondage and died a horrific death. Hence it is possible that his peril-ridden life itself provided him an incentive to compose stories about uncompromising finesse in the manner in which he did. Is it then possible that these tales of morals and values threaten to be pompous and serve to patronize the reader? Far from it! Aesop has used endearing animals and birds, an occasional sweet-nature boy and all the beautiful elements of Mother Nature as his chief protagonists!! The anecdotes are adapted from simple, easy to comprehend real life situations and the incidents are explained in a very lucid and interesting manner. However, it may be noted that the underlying message is very clear and holistic in its implication. Moreover, the personification of the animals and birds and the presentation of an Ant, a Dove, a Donkey or even a Dog either as a central character, or a narrator or even a listener give the story a very appealing child-like quality.
The Fables can be read again and again and the element of novelty is never diminished. For example, in the Fable about the Ant and the grasshopper, a pair of diametrically opposite characters is used to portray the perennial philosophy that foresight is a veritable virtue. The backdrop of the story is saving food to circumvent the perils of a long cold winter, and the manner in which the seemingly drab Ant comes out a winner and the garish Grasshopper is a lost cause. Naturally a new annotation to this tale can be- ?All that glitters is not gold!? This aptly illustrates the fact that there is a limitless plethora of substance to these simple fables.
A unique feature about this book is that it can be very productively savored in solitude by a child reader and equally well-enjoyed en famille. Most definitely this book is an all time favorite and a must for the family bookshelf
