The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe
(Douglas Adams)

The Resraurant at the End of the Universe is the second book in the Hitchhiker's Guide series. The blending of Sci-fi and humor makes reading this book very enjoyable. In part one, the Earth was destroyed and only Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, and Trillian survived it. They met up with Zaphod Beeblebrox, the then president of the galaxy, and went on an adventure for treasures. Part two begins as the four characters are being attacked by Vogons, who are the aliens that blew up the Earth. They are saved at the last moment and end up at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, which is basically a bar and grill that has been projected into the future so that the patrons can watch the end of the universe as they eat the most extravagent foods found anywhere (or anywhen). There, they are plunged into a conspiracy involving Zaphod, his late great-great grandfather, his predecessor as president, and an infuriating man named Roosta. Zaphod discovers that the plot is to meet the man who rules the universe from behind the president. He goes through many perils from the people trying to stop him. He encounters a machine called the infinite perspective vortex, which shows a man the entirety of existance, and their puny size as compared to it, and kills them because of the shock. Zaphod succeeds in finding the ruler of the universe, but only because of some well-timed help from his friends. With plenty of action, lots of strange scenarios, and a never-ending supply of laughs, this book would be close to the top of my list for must-read books.
