Harry Potter and Half blood Prince The much talked about book is not just for kids from 8-16. The magic and mysterious nomenclature only helps to ignite the fire of imagination in young minds. But the famous book is not just for youngsters alone but the teachers and elders as well. J.K. Rowling is down to earth otherwise and she inculcated in young mind values like nobility, courage, loyalty, friendship and fight against evil. This book centers round professor Dumbledore, head of the Hogwarts School with all other characters aiding the story with characteristic features of human nature in general. Professor Dumbledore is very courageous. Intelligent, open minded, generous and all powerful only because of his love for humanity (as expressed by his own words), he sets himself in the task of getting to the root of the problem to put an end to the evil rule of Lord Voldemort and recruits Harry Potter to his epic struggle against evil forces. Though his powers are immense with many people, magical creatures, skills and talents in his hand he admits to Harry that even he is bound to make mistakes and they tend to cause greater damage too. The book has three main themes running parallel to each other. Professor Dumbledore reveals the background of Lord Voldemort to Harry through the collection of memoirs of various people. Tom Marvolo Riddle was brought up in an orphanage as he was abandoned by his mother. Later when he learnt about his lineage on his mother?s side linked with that of his great wizard family ?Slytherins? he abandoned his old name. The transformation of Riddle into Voldemort when he became power hungry with the desire to be an immortal is shown. Harry suspects his classmate Draco Malfoy to be a death eater (a follower of Voldemort). He reports the matter to his friend Ron?s father. Mr. Arthur who is working in the ministry of magic, fails to get any evidence against it. Professor Dumbledore, though in the know of Draco Malfoy?s plot to murder him apparently ignores as he does not want to give him any punishment considering his age and his circumstances. The title of the story ?The Half blood Prince? belongs to Professor Severus Snape, cool and calculative. He is an expert in occlumency (an act of shielding the mind) and can hide his feeling and thinking even from omniscient Dumbledore. Only Harry could sense his double dealings. Harry gets benefited by an advanced potion book belonging to a person who called himself as a half blood prince. Finally it is revealed that Professor Snape indeed named himself as half blood prince. The book is interesting enough for the young readers to read as many times. The death of professor Dumbledore leaves Harry more determined and matured in his fight. SATHYA
