Through hardships and happiness, missions and mishaps, you will follow these daring darlings through the island environs as they try their best at surviving where they were never meant to be. Many see children as rambunctious and out of control today as it is. This book shows that even today's children are meek in comparison to the transformation that these children undergo over the course of their stay on the island. In order to cope with their new environment, the children go from society to surviving. All rules are out the window and its every man (or boy) for himself.You will meet Ralph, the natural leader of the motley crew, a blond boy with a sense of order. Jack, a savage boy to start with and a natural politician, being able to tell someone exactly what they want to here, becomes and instant rival for Ralph. Piggy, a beacon of civilization and peace, is many times key to the group despite the fact that he isn't socially strong. Simon is ever the optimist and always believed that they'd be rescued. Roger, a loyal helper of Jack, is a sadistic young boy, the farthest from society from the start. Finally Sam and Eric, or Samneric, are twins with a strong sense of loyalty and unity. They do everything together and are basically one person in the book.Even without symbolism, this is a great book. Well written and required reading for many American schools, Lord of the Flies is both fun to read and very deep, if you make sure to read the accompaniments that explain all the symbolism of the book. This is a book I would have loved to read even if it wasn't required. You'll fall in love with the characters. I guarantee it.
