Montgomerie is an intelligent decent man. He has made mistakes. He realises that he almost drove his wife away however with his second chance he puts his family above all else.
The most interesting part of the book undoubtedly must be how the American public treated him at the Ryder Cups in America and upon his subsequent other visits to America to play in the golfing majors. He has stood up and been counted. He admits hurt and worry especially about his father but as a true dogged Scot he has battled through.
He is fair minded and very quick to bestowe praise on his fellow golfers. His golfing knowledge cannot be questioned. He has a good sense of humour and when he has given his all in his working day he can reflect and perhaps smile even at his own expense.
