American Psycho
(Brett Easton Ellis)

Publicidade
American Psycho is a chilling tale of one man?s obsessive lifestyle, which includes a remarkable amount of disturbing murdering. Patrick Bateman lives as a product of our times - he lives in a fashionable apartment, exquisitely decorated; he has a high ranking investment job; he dines in the right places and wears the right clothes. However, behind this seeming perfection lies a horrible mind hell bent on destroying those who displease and disgust him.
Seeing through the eyes of Patrick Bateman gives the reader a uniquely bleak insight to the world we inhabit today. For he is the worst type of killer - intelligent and quite insane. Ellis has a real flair for describing the distressing crimes that Bateman commits. On several occasions it is hard not to recoil from the pages at the actions of the main character. Though the book is left ambiguous as to whether all of this is real or just the delusional fantasies of a sick mind, both have an equal impact. The implication that this sort of person is living side by side us is enough to make you think about it.
The amount of violent description within this book is justified by its ends, but is definitely not t be taken lightly. Some of the acts make you wonder about Ellis himself, as they are intensely graphic and deranged, though they do make the character really come to life. Exquistely written in a style that any arrogant, Beethoven loving maniac would be proud of, this is an extremely entertaining look at the dark side of the psyche.
