(Gérard Haddad)
Gérard Haddad, worked in Africa and Asia as agronomist, researching means to increase food production at poor countries. He became psychoanalyst. His book tells us how, feeling depressed, he went to Lacan's office, in search of psychological support. He had professional and familiar problems, besides other ones. It is very curious the description of Lacan, a celebrity, and how his sessions were. They could last hours or few minutes. There was no script to be followed, nothing predictable. At the first conversations, Haddad went perplex, but more experienced, the mechanics of treatment became familiar to him. And he discovers that, many times, in only one minute, the therapist gets the patient perceives a big problem, or the reason of his suffering. For who does not know psychoanalysis or Lacan, specifically, the book is a revelation. Lacan had many patients, but as the duration of sessions were unpredictable, many times some people had to wait for hours to be attended. Some times, Lacan postpone a section for provide a meeting between two patients, so they could change experiences and help each other. Well, Haddad had years of therapy with Lacan. When he was out of country, some times the sections were made by writing letters. Also, it happened that Lacan kept Haddad away for some months. At the end, Haddad released its successful job as agronomist and opened an psychoanalytic office to start a new career. The book is like a confession. Gérard tells the reader his experiences, emotions and rationalizations in the course of the analysis. He says he was adopted by his master. As a son, more than as a disciple.
