A Feast For Crows
(George RR Martin)
The fourth book in the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' fantasy series by George RR Martin looks more like the first part of ACT II rather than the fourth book in ACT I, because the story lays the groundwork for the more important upcoming books in the series. Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen are conspicuously absent in this series and are set to return in the next part. The first stage in 'A Feast for Crows' is set at a point when the seven powers dividing the land, after their bitter battle have reached an uneasy truce.King Joffrey is dead and Queen Cersei has taken over the reigns. After the death of Robb Stark, his siblings scatter all over through the kingdom; thus weakening the once vociferous claim to Iron throne. The claimants seem too weak to effectively weild their power. A pefect title to describe what happens next. The spoils of the war that has decimated everything, is a scavenger's feast. The survivors of the war, along with the outlaws and renegades start fighting again over the spoils of the already dead kingdoms. This war leads to the formation of dangerous new alliances and exciting and daring new plots to take up the challenges ahead. The rest of the story is the struggle between the deceit, power and magic and the nobility of the sages, sorcerers, soldiers and commoners to preserve their fortunes and their lives. A Final Word: One thing that stands out in the book is that it brings out the goodness in the Evil; to show they are just as good as the good are. A considerable length of the novel with the Queen and Jamie reinforces this point. All in all, a must read for the fans of the Ice and Fire fans. Plot, though not as invigorating as the previous book in the series, lays the foundation for the better part of the series to follow.
